Drummers Collective Press Release07/01 Brian Doherty to give Free clinic at Guitar Center QueensThe Drummers Collective and Guitar Center Queens teamed up for in store clinics and promotions. On Wednesday, June 27th - 7pm at Guitar Center Queens (34-17 48th Street LIC) The Drummers Collective presents a clinic with Drummer/Teacher Brian Doherty. The Clinic title is How To Be A Professional, Working Drummer and Brian will discuss subjects such as: running your business, being in a band, negotiating salary and compensation, skills required, setting goals, efficient practicing, reaching your market, as well as sharing some of his personal reflections and observations as a teacher at The Drummers Collective for over 14 years. When purchasing selected items at the Guitar Center you will recieve one free private lesson with a faculty member of your choice. Steve Smith at The CollectiveDrummers Collective offers limited number of private lessons with drum great Steve Smith as part of their Artist In Residence Program. On Wednesday, June 13th and Thursday, June 14th Master Drummer Steve Smith stopped by the Drummers Collective to teach a very limited number of private lessons. Steve was recently in town for 6 performances at The Blue Note in New York City and took time out of his crazy schedule to spread his wealth of knowledge with a few lucky students. Drummer And Percussionist CompetitionDrummers Collective awarded three scholarships to the winners in the 14-17, 18 and over, and advanced categories of the annual "Drummer and Percussionist Competition" held on March 30 to April 1st in Altishofen, Switzerland. Present to give the award was DC Director John Castellano. Also participating as a judge was Michael Lauren, a long time DC faculty member. Drummers Collective is a regular sponsor of this event and is in the process of setting a two week summer intensive to be held in Altishofen in August of 2001. The Collective and Carl Fischer To Team Up For Book SeriesDrummers Collective and Bass Collective New York City is proud to announce that it has signed an agreement with Carl Fischer Publishing to publish a series of books with CD's. These books will feature the material taught in the Collective's full time programs and are based on a curriculum that has been developed over a period of more than twenty years. The first series of books will be the Drummers / Bass Collective Performance Styles Series, an area for which Drummers /Bass Collective is an acknowledged leader. The Collective series of books will present an outline of important contemporary and ethnic styles and will include an accompanying CD performed by members of the respected Drummers Collective and Bass Collective faculty. The complete series will include such diverse styles as Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Afro-Pop, Caribbean, Rock, Jazz, Funk, New Orleans, and Drum & Bass. In total more than fifty different styles and grooves will be covered. Release date is scheduled for late 2001.
