With his blistering solos and diverse musical background, Daniel de los Reyes is one of most sought after percussionists on the music scene today. His repertoire of musical skills include playing everything from rock to funk to jazz to R&B to Latin and world rhythms opening the door to a wide range of musical opportunities.
Over the years, he has performed on tour, record, TV, and video with a virtual who's who in music including multi-platinum and Grammy award-winning Earth, Wind & Fire, Don Henley, Stevie Nicks, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Yanni, Shakira, Lionel Richie, Steve Winwood, and many others.
His latest invention with Latin Percussion, the "One Shot Shaker," is now available at LP (Latin Percussion) and is receiving an enthusiastic response nationwide. Daniel's revolutionary new LP One Shot Shaker’s unique design enables both novice and professional musicians to execute simple or even the most complex rhythms for an entire musical track with improved precision and ease.
Recent recordings include Philip Bailey's 2002 "Soul on Jazz" CD and Carlos Reynosa's "Wiseman" cd which was selected as a 2001 Native American Music Award - Best Album Nominee.
Video appearances include best-selling DVD's and videos such as "Don Henley Live—Inside Job"; Yanni's "Tribute"; Jennifer Lopez "Feeling So Good"; and Ricky Martin's "The Ricky Martin Video Collection."
De los Reyes' most recent film work was a musical appearance in the smash hit salsa-filled VH1 Original Movie "The Way She Moves". Daniel also added songwriter to his long list of credits when he collaborated with Mario Rodriguez and Frank Simmes on a high energy salsa tune titled "Una Vez Mas" which aired in a club scene on the popular ABC daytime drama "One Life to Live."
Born in New York City and raised in Puerto Rico and Las Vegas, Daniel is a third generation musician in the de los Reyes family. He received his early drum instruction from his father, Walfredo de los Reyes Sr., one of Cuba's most prominent and influential drummers. His grandfather, Walfredo de los Reyes II, was one of the founding members of the successful Cuban orchestra Casino de la Playa. Growing up, Daniel was surrounded by innovative musicians of the era including Cuban bongo players Armando Peraza and Marcelino Valdez, drummer Alex Acuna, and bass player Cachao, who became mentors to Daniel.
Currently dividing his time between New York City and Los Angeles, Daniel continues to broaden his musical talents to include recording and producing projects. His own critically acclaimed SAN RAFAEL 560 CD was selected as one of the "Top 10 Albums of 2000" in the World Music Category. The upbeat, danceable CD features a collection of classic Cuban mambos, rumbas, and cha-cha-chas -- favorites with music lovers and dance audiences of all ages across the country. Over the years, Daniel 's musicianship has earned him the reputation as one of most respected and versatile performers amongst both his fans and peers in the music industry today.
